Ballroom Is Our Space: Express. Empower. Elevate.
Ballroom is a vibrant and creative culture born from the Black, Latino, queer, and trans community. It is a space where people can express themselves freely, celebrate who they are, and be valued for their talent, confidence, and uniqueness.
More than just performance, Ballroom is about FAMILY, RESPECT, AND ELEVATION—a place where we uplift each other and create a world where everyone can shine.
The Challenge :
Many young people—especially SOGIESC (Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, Expression, and Sex Characteristics) youth, young girls, and gender-diverse individuals—face stigma, discrimination, and a lack of safe spaces where they can truly be themselves. Traditional outreach doesn't always work to uncover the real issues facing our community. We needed a way to bridge the gap with the younger generation, open doors for honest conversations, and create an environment where we could genuinely listen, learn, and understand what our youth truly need to thrive.
Our Solutions:
“More Than Ballroom, A Movement.” What began as a way to connect with the younger generation quickly became a powerful movement. We use the art and culture of Ballroom as a tool to engage young people in a space they love, allowing us to provide resources, referrals, and real change.
-
A Safe Space for Education: We provide a sanctuary where youth can be themselves freely while receiving vital education on real-life topics, including Mental Health & Wellbeing, Sexual & Reproductive Health (SRHR), Rights & Safety, and Life Skills & Financial Literacy.
-
Harmonizing Culture & Expression: We honor our roots by celebrating Samoan and Pacific identities through music, siva (dance), language, fashion, and storytelling, blending it seamlessly with global Ballroom culture to keep our heritage alive for future generations.
-
Fighting Stigma with Dignity: We actively fight stigma and discrimination by showcasing the talent, dignity, and humanity of our participants, creating inclusive spaces for SOGIESC youth and allies.
-
Mentorship & Leadership: We blend the art of performance with education and life skills. By empowering individuals through workshops and mentorship, we nurture confident, informed, and compassionate leaders.
