The Samoa Civic Media Lab was created to ensure local voices are heard through ethical, inclusive, and culturally grounded storytelling.
Our program helps participants transofrm lived experiences into powerful media that can educate, advocate, and influence positive social change.
The Challenge :
Every community has stories worth telling, but local voices often go unheard. There is a critical need to ensure that community challenges, lived experiences, and cultural knowledge are shared through ethical, inclusive, and culturally grounded storytelling. Without access to the right technical skills or platforms, grassroots advocates, youth leaders, and NGOs can struggle to document their realities, educate others, or effectively influence policy conversations to drive positive social change.
Our Solutions:
Hosted by Brown Girl Woke (Tamaita'i Ala Mai), the Samoa Civic Media Lab empowers NGOs, youth leaders, grassroots organizations, and community advocates with the practical skills to tell stories that inspire change.

Interactive Workshops: We deliver hands-on training that combines learning with practical experience, moving beyond theory so participants learn exactly how media can become a tool for advocacy.

Mentorship & Real Production: Participants work individually and in teams to produce real media projects while receiving direct mentorship from experienced facilitators.

Media as a Tool for Change: We help participants transform their lived experiences into powerful media designed to raise community awareness, advocate for human rights, engage youth, and preserve cultural knowledge.

Tangible Outcomes: By the end of the program, participants leave with practical media products they have created themselves, equipped with the confidence to continue telling stories within their own communities.

What You'll Learn
No previous experience is required. Everyone has a story worth telling. Participants receive hands-on training in:
